I would say maybe better, maybe not. I have both a Bergara and a T/C PH in .50 cal. The T/C barrel is an excellent sabot barrel. Fit, finish, accuracy, and iron sights are spot-on. However, it won't shoot big conicals well with the exception of Powerbelts. Being in Colorado, this is a pretty big deal for me. The Bergara barrel shoots sabots pretty well, but also shoots conicals like the 460 gr NoExcuses with good accuracy. In fact, I have yet to find anything it doesn't shoot pretty well. I do have a few issues with the Bergara barrel. The iron sights it came with didn't allow enough elevation adjustment to get it zeroed, so I installed a shorter front post sight and a taller rear sight to solve that problem. No issue for scope shooters. Secondly, the barrel didn't lock up real tight when closed, so I played around and discovered the locking bolts were to blame. I replaced the Bergara bolts with a pair I bought from T/C and it locked up nice and tight. Some people try to blame this problem on the hinge pin, but every one of my Bergara barrels has a tighter hinge pin fit compared to my T/C barrels, so I looked elsewhere for a solution. I have seen this problem on only one of my four Bergara barrels, and admittedly, none of my four T/C barrels. I would also say that the Bergara barrel comes with a very cheap ramrod. If I could have only one barrel I would keep the Bergara and be very happy. But I have other rifles that can shoot conicals extremely well, so I will keep the T/C and probably sell the Bergara. And like Quickdtoo said, there's the $50 rebate from T/C, negating the price issue.

In my opinion, with the current $50 rebate on T/C barrels and with already low prices on certain sites, one would be nuts to buy a Bergara barrel.

I would agree unless you want to shoot heavy lead conicals. I still can't understand why T/C thinks QLA is a feature instead of a defect. >:(

Thanks, it is allways good to see a response based on actual experiences of the subject at had rather than mere opinions !!

Thanks again

Yes, it's useful to learn from the misfortune of others.  Fortunately, using my gut instinct and benefiting from the bad press about Bergara from others, I avoided having any personal experience with Bergara barrels.

Yes it is fine to learn from the mistakes of others, I do that myself & IF they did it, it's learning from the experience of others. It's interesting to note what he said also "If I could keep one barrel I would keep the Bergara & be very happy"

With the rebate for a rifle barrel I would likely try another TC barrel. But the rebate won't make enough difference for the Muzzleloader barrel, I will try a Bergara. I sold my Encore MZ barrel as it was a dud. I doubt that I could get a Bergara barrel that would do worse than that one. I read the reviews in Midway, you know, thew experience of others with generally acceptable reviews. I hope the next TC centerfire barrel does well, most do OK & some great.

I have no issues with TC, it happens with all companies. In fact, I have a Super 14 Cont. in 223 & a 30-30AI barrel that is fantastic.

I own a T/C 209x50 for my encore. I just shot a nice elk in my home state of Colorado with it this year. As for the Bergara's I am not sure but my first Bergara (35 whelen) will be here soon. I recommend that if you do purchase an encore in 209x50 pay attention to the twist rates. A standard encore is 1:28 which is suited for Sabot, which is great unless your state like mine (CO) does not allow Sabot. I ended up buying Powerbelts and that is what I get the best accuracy with but its over $1 a shot. If I had it to do over again I would get a custom T/C 209x50 with a 1:48 which will stabalize heavy maxi-balls with heavier poweder charges a lot better. Good luck!!!

I'm not convinced about the twist rate. The best conical shooter I have is a White UMAG .504 with 1:22" twist rate. I also have a Knight KRB7 and a Bergara 209/50, both with twist rates around 1:28" and they shoot conicals at just over 1 MOA. The T/C has the QLA which seems to cause nothing but trouble for big conicals. The theory behind this seems to be related to the gasses passing the bullet as it goes through the QLA cone, de-stabilizing it. Several people have trimmed the QLA's off their barrels and re-crowned the muzzle. In each case, conical accuracy improved dramatically. Unfortunately, those of us with Pro-Hunter barrels are stuck. Trimming off the QLA leaves the flutes running past the tip and looks very odd.

I read reread and read again the post and I really dont see any misfortune.  I guess when you rmind is made up before trying anything, it is easy to make it look as you please.
