drilling may be all I need

I have quite a few rifles & shotguns and 2 drillings. I can't really hunt much anymore due to some medical problems, at least my options are limited when it comes to hunting. Here I have this Krieghoff drilling, could quite possably be the finest gun I've ever owned and I keep playing with guns like a old marlin 30/30. Replacement cost on the drilling is scary, whats wrong with me. I should just sell everything but my drillings and just shoot them.    What you think about that?

  WELL, i could EASILY go the rest of my life with only my Krieghoff drilling in my hands...  BUT, i hope i won't ever have to, cause i have some "other" guns that have sentimental value to me.  Then there's the fact that i bought that Chapuis DR....     BUT, like i said in the beginning........

  When talking guns pastorp, it is not a matter of what we "need", but what we enjoy..I certainly do not need all the guns in my collection, but I truely enjoy them..You may want those other guns in the future, especially considering the situation we find ourselves in with the Federal Gov.t and it greed for power....

Your question can only be answered by you and the value you place in having or selling the guns.

By drilling I assume you are talking a combination of 3 or 4 barrels, rather than a simple o/u. Everyone to their own choice of course, but I wouldn't go that route. Although I can see a good o/u as an all round survival gun, using a drilling day in and day out would seem a bit taxing to me, especially since I am in the senior years category, which would only be compounded with any medical problems.
  With these old eyes, all my rifles but two (one an air rifle) have scopes on them. I don't use shotguns and gave mine away, but if I did use them, I wouldn't want a scope for partridge or pheasants. how would that be accomplished with a drilling ? I have an Anschutz "woodchucker" (stock lengthened) as my 'truck gun'. Accurate as can be and only weighs about 4 lbs..sleek & light, it is a dream to carry on excursions away from my truck.
  Drillings are a work of art but don't quite answer certain needs for me.  ..But as I said; to each his own...

My drilling has three barrells, 2 shot barrells and a rifle barrell. The scope just lifts off, it's in claw mounts. I also have 22lr & 22mag inserts that go into the right shot barrell.    This drilling weights about the same as most hunting rifles.

  Drillings always have three bbl.,  it's a german word meaning 3,



  Anyway, i carry my drilling without the scope, and it's ready for most anything i hunt.  If i have a longer shot, i can instantly snap the scope on and take the shot.

  After more than 25 years of carrying and hunting with my drilling, it's become my "go to gun", and i don't give a rip what it's worth!  It's been in canoes, planes, ATV's and everything else over the years i've been hunting with it, and has worked out VERY well for 99.9% of my hunting needs.

    It seems the drillings work for you..and yes, I didn't consider the special scope mounts. As I said, not for me..but you guys are happy with them.
   Shucks; I can't argue with the method of trapping...when the skins are on the wall !

wasn't the Drilling designed to be the one gun for most hunting situations?

  Drillings were designed for the hunter to go to his stand with.  The "drivers" would push game to him, and he needed to be ready for what ever came buy, flying, running, big or small.  It could be a deer, pheasant or ? that came out to him.

  At 7 pounds, mine is a joy to carry, and the rifle bbl. is quite accurate, so what's not to like?

I have a very rare and hard to find Valmet 412 in 12/.243 that I will trade you for you Krieghoff.
