I use hard cast 300 grain flatpoints in my .45 Colt 4 5/8 Blackhawk over a healthy dose of 2400. No deer has ever walked away from that. The last buck I killed with that load came close to my tree stand and layed down. At the shot, he got to his feet and then immediately lay down again. Pass through, no expansion. My opinion is that a big bore bullet should be heavy, hard, and flat nosed.
