Well let's see:

First Day of Bowseason: Parker Crossbow
First day of ML Season: CVA Optima 209 Magnum
First day of General Gun Season: CVA Optima or Remington 141 35 Remington

I do have a 30-30 Topper that will get blood this year and of course the 22 Hornet Topper will knock a few deer and hogs down.

I thank God everyday for my loving wife and all the fond memories of hunting with my Papa from a child until now.

Please take time to take a kid hunting, it will be a life long memory and blessing for both of you!

Well....next weekend I'll take out my Hoyt compound for the archery opener. I hunt public land (National Grasslands) so I am not able to use any of my Handi's :(  .  I'll probably take the CVA Accura .50 Cal. for the general opener.

If opening day is here in FL I will probably use my .30-30 or .45-70 Handi.  If it's in another state it will probably be my Remington Model 700 .30-06.

The 38-55 shorty, of course!!  ;D I have a bag of 213gr bonded hollow points to work up a load using 375 Win data, should work excellent on deer out to 200yds with a MV of ~2100fps, opening day is the 16th of October, so I need to be making so noise at the range soon!  8)

So are you loading it to .375 Winchester data?  It is an interesting cartridge that is the smallest caliber allowed for Louisiana primitive rifles.  I'm going to have to look into finding one of these barrels...

Oh, to answer the question...  I hunt with my Excalibur Exomax crossbow starting 10/1/10.  Most of my gun duty will go to Clotile, my .444 clover maker.  Youth days and my wife will make sure my .357 shorty gathers no dust this season too.  And the .17 HMR will go on my squirrel/rabbit/bobcat/coyote walks.

Yes, it's fine on an SB2 frame, just don't do it in a 38-55 levergun, 30-30 and 38-55 brass work great in 375 Win leverguns.

Since our ML season here in ENC starts Oct. 2 (next Saturday) I'll be starting with the HUntsman shooting 80 grs of Blackthorn under a 250 gr sabot. Got a spot out in the National Forest (about a 600 yard walk from the house) picked out where a biggun has been walking a dry creekbed every morning.

Regular gun I'll be at the brother's farm with my BC 45-70 sitting on the 4'X4' shooting platform he built me....

I had planned to use my Ruger #1 30-06, but I need to pick my spot out first.
If its tight woods, I might go with my new 20 ga semi-auto with slugs.
If its supposed to be rainy, the synthetic 270 gets the call.

My handi 30-30 has adopted a 9 year old boy to hunt with.

I think my Marlin 30AS probably gets opening day duty this year.  I have some Hornady 170 grainers that print very well with this rifle.  The gun wears an old Burris Fullfield 2.75 duplex scope low and tight.  Nice set up.

I'll also carry the good old 4" stainless GP100 loaded to full power with Beartooth 180 gr. WFN bullets.  I've never taken a deer with this gun/load and I'd love a chance to try.

I'm leanin' towards the 44mag shorty.

Spanky

IF it is raining I will use my shorty in 44 mag. It is a really great shooter and Coyote killer. That is for deer and coys.

It will be my double sweet sixteen for the squirrels. I worked and saved all I could one summer and bought for myself this shot gun and will keep it for my days.

This year, with back surgery pending, and not being as healthy as I once was, it looks like the opener is gonna be sitting in the brush with a .54 Renegade in the 'short range weapon' area behind the in-law's dairy farm.  If the wolves ain't run EVERYTHING off yet.......

My mind was all made up until the OP made this post.  Now I've been reading, and may have to take the 280, with my 357 max. on one shoulder and my 45-70 on the other.  Just in case.  There may be a herd waitin'..... ;D

Only Handi so far is a 375 JDJ.

35 Rem Shorty for the rifle season.  It is sooo nice in the blind.  It sure likes the factory 150's too.  So little work to get this one to group.  We have an early muzzle loader does only in a couple weeks.  My TC pro hunter gets the nod there.  Then flintlock season, its my trusty great plains 54.

Its been nice reading this.  So many good options out there.  Good luck ya'll.

Opening day of gun season if it's not raining or snowing it will be my 1973 vintage Marlin 336A with 24" barrel chambered for the 30-30 Ackley Improved. This has to be the luckiest gun I have ever owned. The first time I ever hunted with it was a few years ago on opening morning and took a nice 9 point buck with it. The very next trip with this gun got me a big doe and the third time it got to go hunting I bagged another doe.
Last year on opening morning I took this rifle again and had an 8 pointer on the ground just after daylight.
All have been one shot kills with this gun, the 170 core-lokt loaded in the Ackley Improved makes a good combo to dull a hunting knife! ;D
The sling on this rifle was hand made by a very talented friend of mine and the old made in ElPaso, Weaver 4x scope was given to me from another good friend.
As you have probably figured out by now, this rifle is special to me and no it's not for sale! ;)
If the weather is bad on opening day I'll have my 500 S&W Handi loaded with my 440 grain wheel weights!

GOOD SHOOTING!

Because I hunt opening day in a shotgun only zone, it will be my 20ga Tracker 1. A great close in woods gun. It's the gun pictured in my  avitar.
