Its a hard choice. First year using a center fire as I have been a bow hunter until last year I used my in-line with success. My .270 is a tack driver with handloads. My .243 shoots good with factory win x ammo but still testing reloads. 7mm-08 I have 40 rounds through it and have 60 reloads ready to get to the range. Hopefully I get them all shooting good and Ill use a dif one each time out.

My Whelen has issues(going in for repairs soon) and I was looking foward to bringing that, so I guess my 45 b.c. gets the nod I just love that light fast handling little carbine and I bought it a friend to keep him company(ruger blackhawk 5.5" convertible 45c/45acp). My 45-70 has proved itself more than once, time for its little brother to step up to the plate!

That's a fine deer-killing rig. Those stocks look better than what I had them on. I hope some of my good luck rubs off from those stocks... :D ;D

I've got a spot picked out between some greenbriars where I am gonna set up a ground blind.  the ground is deep with accorns and there is deer sign everywhere.  Edge of Natl Forest, though, and I've got to put him down fast to keep him from goin back on private land.  So  -  probably either one of my Handi big bores - maybe the 500, or maybe my Marlin guide gun.  Either one should stop a buck fast.

+1 on that.  .45-70 got early doe season and I have my NMB and lil Carbine to go next.  8)  I am picking up some 7.5x55 swiss ammo for my classic mil rifle and might have to snipe one off the roof at the back of the property too later.   ;D

Opening morning will be the Tracker ll 12 using Buckhammers or may take the Pardner smooth bore 20 out, feed with Remmy Sluggers.

Opening evening will be the Handi 30-30. She will also see about 90% of all my hunts. ;)

My first Handi (308 Ultra) will tag along into the Western Sierra granite in the Hell's Kitchen Valley.
The old gang is getting together and the 12x36 Army tent is coming out of hibernation after a few years.
It gets cold up there and the ultra needs to be baptized in blood. -g

My son has the new 45-70 Handi and told me the other day, "dad, we don't need to sight in the .270 (bolt gun)this year, I am using BRUISER II so the .270 can stay home." :)
I will be using the .270 Handi But the topper 30-30 is always along for a spare. I also have to add a *

*unless another handi needs a home before then.
EDIT- well MY 45-70 should be here and ready for the Nov. 6th opener :) So I imagine that will be the one for opener.

Good luck to you all and keep safe.  thejanitor

Theres a 30-06 Handi sitting on a rack right now for $200 that I'm very tempted to buy. I keep telling myself that I dont NEED it,as I have plenty of other rifles that will work just fine, but still,it every time I walk by it,I can hearing it calling out to me.

As a thank you for Tim, my .38-55 and .445 Supermag will alternate days.  The .445 is finally sorted out, and the .38 barrel will be here early in the week, giving me a month and a half to get ammo loaded and the wrinkles ironed out.

For opening day rifle:  my trusty 308 and my daughter will be using her .44 mag with the pink wooden stock. I recently installed a recoil reducer and a red dot scope so I will get it sighted in and have her shoot it.

Opening day here is bow which starts next Sat.  My old Golden Eagle is ready and waiting.

The .35 Whelen kills deer with authority, that's for sure!  I call mine (Mark X Mauser with Shilen barrel) my 'bang-plop' gun!  For longer range I like either my .257 Weatherby or 6.5-'06; any one of the three will get the job done!
