Shoot for me opening day was back on 10 August.  Hunting is generally over by third week of September.  It's never a question what to take.  My Handi in 30-06 always goes.  Now sometimes I take another gun for shooting long distances, but the Handi is always there as back-up.  

BTW, I shot a Moose Last Sunday night with my Handi, special late season Cow Hunt.  Partner had shot it but hit it too high.  Moose fell, but got up and ran.  As it was going into the trees it made a fatel mistake.  It stopped and looked back.  I put one right between the eyes.

just got back from working outta town for 12 days....
got some dove wif tha TDC yesterday afternoon then
went an check my plots  :o  looks like i needta bushhog'um ;D
deers feet prints allova tha place on every plot.
i'm glad the boy turned the sweet taters and corn down under in tha middle.  last weekend ;D
it must be done roun heah 10days before open'n bow on tha 15th, prolly same 10 day thang in your area.
all planned shoot'n irons and stick throwers are still the same.
6 more days  ;)  lottsa hawg signs too  ;D

its time ta fire-up the hang'n cooler and re-clean tha process stuff  8)

Horton xbow for deer bow season.
Ohio gun season opener: either the S&W 357 mag pistol or my Handi 20 ga. Topper- my goal for this year is to get one of two tags filled with the pistol.
Ohio ML will be the Handi Sidekick.

     .45-70 H&R, 300 Grain Remington, 35.8 gr IMR 4198 @ something like 1600 fps, alternating with the 336 .35 Rem with 200 gr Sierras, 39 gr Varget @ 2114 fps...bang, flop in both cases.

      Love the swamp posts, keep 'em coming...

open'n bow yesterday, an this is what i did.....no blood !!! jus fun  :D

yesterday was open'n bow....and the cb went along.

seen quite many, seen !!!!

all had certificates around there necks that showed they graduated in distance technology 099

every one of them critters would not come one step closer than 75 yards !!!

i was not busted, not one time either.  they did'nt even know i was there.

i watched one big doe for 45 minutes eating grape seed sprouts and oat sprigs.
she never looked my way !!!  she kept looking behind her and i was waiting for big joe cool !!!
but notta. anaway, i had fun and played around with a few just to see if they noticed me...
made noise... hada smoke, coughed... slid my feet around in the shoot'n house floor.

hope they did'nt do distance tech 101... 200yrds or greater in gun season !!!!!

hopefully next week they have partyed too much and forgot

I think you need a Kentucky Crossbow, Xbow bolt fired out of a 410 shotgun. ::) :o ;D  Might get a tad more range.

I've changed my mind 100 times so far... today it's the 32-20 Trotter Special with 100gr. hardcast. It's shootin' good. ;D
Season don't open til November 21st here so I'll probably change it another 100 times. ::)

 More than one Yankee is reading his his post, but I've done a fair bit of travelling in my day. Whenever I meet someone away from New York and they ask me why I don't have an accent. I tell them I'm from a town in upstate N.Y. where the cows outnumber the people.
 Opening day for early smoke pole was Saturday, and we had the tail end of a nor-easter blowing out. Heading back up to camp on 10/29 thats when the 45-70 Manlicher will get the call.

Smaller than we think!!  ;D  One of Butch's sons had the scoped Handi, shot at a gator and missed it by 3 feet, the narrator called it a 444 Magnum, I thought maybe is was a 44 Mag, but the rounds in the butt cuff looked way too long.

Got my first one of the season Monday evening!!! Eight point full velvet with a Barnett crossbow. He didn't go 50 feet!!! Had some fresh tenderloin last night for supper!!!!
