Mauser pistol calibers????
« on: September 24, 2010, 01:16:24 PM »
I'm not too sure about this so i'll need help in defining these different calibers in lugers and broomhandles.

My question is;  Are the 7,63 mauser,  30 mauser and the 7,62x25 tokarev the same round??  Can they be interchanged with each other?

Bill:  the C96 Mauser Pistol (Broomhandle Mauser)  was made in 3 calibers, the 7.63 or 30 Mauser, the 9x19 or 9mm Luger, and the 9mm Export which is, I believe  38 ACP/Super or 23mm in length.

The 7.63 Mauser and the 30 Mauser are the same round.  The 7.62x25mm Tokarev round is dimentionally identical but is not recommended for those older pistols.

Ron Reed, one of our sponsors and whose banner flies at the top of a lot of pages makes the best ammo for those older pistol on this side of the pond.  See his caveats about using the hotter ammo in those older pistols and see what he feels are safe loads.

it's been a while since I have had one but I was told it is OK to shoot the Mauser round in the Tokarev  but not to shoot the Tokarev round in the Mauser . 7.62 to 7.63 is no big deal but the Tokarev is too hot for the old Mausers.

within a thousandth or so of each other is dimension.
not too close in pressure though. And don't forget their grandpa the

About 10 years+ ago i could of purchased two broomhandles one chinese and one german that needed new barrels(corroded) for $300 each.  I passed on it.  I seen a german broomhandle selling for $2,000 and an astra m900 selling for $3,800 recently.  I guess anyone who wants one is going to have to dig deep to get it. I'd like to have one to shoot it, i don't care about the collectability.  I wish they offered new ones manufactured today.

Bill - there used to be a place on Long island that 'remade' the Broomhandles for a while but I don't know if they are still around. .

Of course i was looking for something to shoot the cheap 7,62x25 tokarev ammo.  Then i can justify getting a cheaper broomhandle of course. I give up....I'll use a tokarev pistol. But for a 9mm maybe a Destroyer rifle in 9mm largo?  The spanish largo 9mm is only $4 for 25rds.
