Thread size for lost Encore screws.
« on: September 25, 2010, 04:29:06 PM »
Does anyone know what size screws hold on the fore stocks for Encore Pistols? I thought I read that it was 10-32 so I went to the ACE Hardware store and bought some. They are too big around.
I was also missing the grip bolt to hold on my rubber Decelerator grips. When I put in a screw from a rifle frame, the gun would not cock, it seems the bolt is about 3/4 of an inch too long. I did find that one at ace but I did not get it short enough. I don't want to scare anyone by taking my gun into the hardware store to test fit screws, so if anyone knows what size to get, I would sure appreciate it.  :)
Thanks, Lastchanc54

Encore forearm screws are 8x40. almost impossible to find in a local hardware or even fastener specialty stores. Brownells does carry them but will probably have to be shortened. A call to TC and they will probably send you a set at no cost or at least they did for me. Grip bolts Contender and Encore are 1/4X20 but lengths vary between the grip makers. The 10X32 is the size for Contender forearms.

Like David d said 8-40 for the forend screws I have never found them at any hardwear store but a good gun smith will have them as far as the grip bolt is slip it on and run a piece of coat hanger in where the bolt goes and then shorten up the measurement some you can get several length and give it a try but I am thinking that they are less than 2 inches long. I had one grip that only took an inch and half one

Thank you both for your help. So far I have lost both of my screws for the decelerator forearm and one from my factory rubber forearm. I found out that my screw driver was magnetic so it pulled them all the way out but they some how came off the magnetic tip and disapeared in the grass. Just a heads up for others, if you lose your screws, well your screwed. At least for a while.

Call TC and Pachmyr. I bought a set of the Decelerator's (grip and fore end) but they didn't have the screws. Called Pachmyr to find out the size and all they said was they are on the way, no cost, no fuss.

Discovered that my "new to me" Contender was missing the rear screw on the fore arm.

Called T/C customer service to buy a replacement and the guy said it would be more cost effective for us both if they just sent me a new one free of charge.  Getting my credit card number, charging me a couple of bucks...just too much trouble compared to sending me a free one.

Cost me the time to tell him which screw was missing, for him to look up the part number, mumble a few things as he found out what he needed to get me the screw, writing things down like my address, then wait for the mail to get the job done.

Arrived yesterday, installed in two minutes (took some time to find the screw driver).

I think I'd do that again if need be, before looking around in hardware stores.
