I read Three Against the Wilderness when I was a teenager [late 50's] If I remember correctly my father got it thru The Outdoor Life book club. To me at the time it was awesome. Sure sent a hillbilly kid to dreamin.

It was written in the 1950s I believe.  I found it in an antique store.

it's all coming back.  wasn't it about a man, his wife and kid up in alaska or canada,
I think I owned that book in the 70s.  I too belonged to outdoor life book club.
I'm gonna try and find a copy.

LOL !

I have been to Meldrum Creek several times. It still exists, not as in the book, but you can still find it for sure.

The mosquitos sure sound rough.  I've seen the time if you opened your mouth you'd have to spit several out.  I hate it when they are bad.

That reminded me of a backwater canoe trip I took years ago up along the boundry waters.
Trip and experince was awesome. ;)
Mosquitos not so much. :P

I'm buying momma a Kendle E=book reader for Christmas. It looks like they have a HUGE selection of books, and older stuff is pretty reasonable. We've been getting most of our reading from garage sales and finding enough stuff to keep us busy, but it would be nice to be able to decide that I want this book or that one and buy it rather than taking pot luck. I suspect we will be a two reader household before long. The grandkids are getting old enough that I'm starting to take an interest in their toys now.
