New 7-30 Waters bbl - need some reccomended loads for it.
« on: September 29, 2010, 10:03:51 AM »
Well I have this 21" bbl coming, and I have the dies and cases ready, and a pretty good supply of 7mm bullets.  Anyone out there that has good success with the round, please tell me what works best.  I will be looking for a deer load, and a good cast load.  They may even be one in the same.  Thanks,  Wallacem

I use the round soft point in 120 grns and the powder is Hodgdons H 4895 with 31 Grns This is the same type bullet that Federal loads for that cal. dont know what the powder is but this load has worked well for me on deer. My rifle is the g2 with stainless rifle barrel and a 3x9 Bushnell scope with walnut stock.

My load and what I load for my cousin's Contender is a Nosler Ballistic Tip 120 gr over AA 2460.  It is the second most accurate of my loads, just slightly behind my .223

What works excellent in my 14 inch barrel is 39.5 grains 748 and 120 grain Nosler BT. But a word of caution. My barrel is long throated and I seat the bullet out to an OAL of 2.850 inches. This load produces 2491 FPS in my barrel and is very accurate.

This load was taken directly from the Lyman manual #47.

Regards, Keith

I run 30/30 brass through a 7-30 FL sizing die, then fireform with a starting load of 748 and Hornady's 120 gr SP. Very nice shooting and extremely accurate. But loaded hot for hunting, all I was getting was shotgun patterns. Tried using the Nosler BT with 2460, 748, RL-15, and IMR 4895, and the best group was 2.5". With the 120 gr Hornady SP and RL-15, 0.5" and smaller groups are standard now. And this load works very well on deer, hogs, and coyotes.
