Tokarev Shoots High
« on: September 29, 2010, 03:48:02 PM »
My Tokarev shoots about a foot high at 25 yards.
I have not seen anyone else post about a similar problem.
I guess I need a taller front sight.
Is this something readily available?

lrs:  is this Tok in 7.62x25mm?  I know that most of the Toks in 9mm will shoot high and some surplus ammo in 7.62x25 may also shoot high, but not that high.  There are no repl;acement front sights for the Tokarevs, sorry; mine seems to be just milled on the slide.

If your Tok is in 7.62x25mm and shoots that high I would first try some new Sellier and Bellot ammo and if that doesn't bring the poi down to poa at 25m then I would check a couple of things:  Check your barrel and bushing to see if there are any wear mark pattersn that might indicate the barrel is being pushed up or angled up when the slide is in battery - your bushing may be out of round or may have a burr.  Also check your barrel link and link pin to make certain they seat properly and do not have uneven wear marks - if there are uneven marks, work on reducing the cause.

The last thing I would do is look to raise the front sight.  This can be accomplished by using JB Weld or a thick mixture of bedding compound; apply either to the front sight, let dry and then work the front sight down to where your poi is at poa at the distance you usually shoot.  Also, you can open up the rear sight notch with some Swiss files to allow for a better sight picture and a more square and wider front sight blade of your own construction should also help.

Most parts for the Tokarev are fairly inexpensive.  You can find new barrels and bushings at pretty reasonable prices if you need them.  HTH.

How accurately do they shoot at 100yds?

I was playing with my CZ85DB in 9mm luger at the range one time and took it out to 100yd berm and i needed 3' of kentucky windage to hit the small rocks on the back of the berm.  I always want to know how much kentucky windage it takes with my CCW guns to shoot at longer distances, its food for thought if the situation ever arrises.
This paid off one day with a bully with his ar15 he thought 100yds was far.  Someone dropped a paper napkin at 100yds and my 9mm hit it often.  Then it got really quiet after that.
