Freedoms are given up to have security. We obey laws ( loss of personal freedom) to be secure. When our laws make us insecure where does that leave us ? On our own like the state of AZ.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Ben Franklin
He never heard of the TSA
Most of us wish we never had. Most of the idiocy put into place after 9/11 was pure stupidness. It was as if they thought "This is how they do things now. Standard method of attack is to fly a plane into a building.". That's not how it works. Terrorists strike in unconventional ways where you're vulnerable, not the same way every time. All the junk they put into that basically just means they'll shift their attention somewhere else. To be effective we need to beef up things IN GENERAL. You want to keep it from happening again? Bolt the airline cockpit doors shut and give the pilots handguns. Simple, completely unobtrusive to the passengers' freedom, and utterly effective.
It's not as if they could get away with it a second time anyways. Jay Mohr had an excellent stand up routine on it (look for "My Turn" by Jay Mohr), but a paraphrased quote to give you the jist:
"Once I get on that plane, I AM the air-marshal. I don't have any official air-marshal training, per say, but you try to take over my plane and I WILL give you a tracheotomy with a ball-point pen!"
What we did was the equivalent of noticing that a criminal walked through our unlocked front door, so we added a dead-bolt, landmines, and welded the front door shut, while still leaving the back door unlocked . . .
