Mushroom hunter's alert!
« on: October 01, 2010, 05:21:49 AM »
If any of you are mushroom hunters now is the time to hit the woods as the black trumpets are going wild with the largest bloom in memory.  These mushrooms, sometimes called the poor man's truffle seem to be everywhere.  I have picked so many that I can close my eyes and see them. :D  Many collectors say they taste even better than the morels and they are safe because nothing in the woods looks like them.  On ebay they are selling for $70-80 a pound dried.  If you are in the woods scouting for deer season keep your eyes open for the trumpets.   I think I hear them playing my song right now.  We sauted about a pound last night.  In a fancy restaurant they would cost a small fortune.  Just another benefit to living in the Ozarks.

I just got back from that area last week, and all the in-laws dig roots for extra cash!

Big deer, hogs, and free money just laying in the woods?  They said Ginseng dry sometimes sells for $500-800.
