Variflame breechplugs
« on: October 01, 2010, 08:25:16 PM »
I have a Prohunter 209 x50 Katahdin barrel and have trouble with the dreaded crud ring, after two shots the sabot won't seat all the way. I read alot of the old posts about the variflame breechplugs but could not come to a firm conclusion, are they worth spending the money or not, will it get rid of the crud ring and better my accuracy? Please help me decide.

The Vari-flame is an adapter that lets you shoot small rifle primers in your existing 209 plug.  The .25ACP breechplug uses 25ACP brass and small rifle primers.  I never had any problems with the vari-flames until I started shooting the Knight Disc XT.  The small rifle primers probably won't light BH209, tho.
