Successful Turkey Hunt
« on: October 02, 2010, 02:30:17 PM »
Well I'm back early from my Turkey hunt. I shot a nice hen late Friday afternoon. A small flock crossed the road about 200 yards in front of me, heading for the trees to roost. I was able to jump outa the rig with my shotgun and run across the field and just cut them off before the last couple of birds made it into the timber. About a 45 yard shot with the old Remington 11-87, factory extra full choke, and Win 3" duplex 2x4's knocked her flat down. She flapped for a couple of minutes, but that was it. By the time I got her back to the rig, it was getting dark fast, and I made a beeline for the camp to dress her out.

First time I've hunted Turkeys since I was a kid.

First Turkey, for me, too.

It sure was hot N. of Flagstaff this weekend! Into the 80's during the day. I thought about staying another day or two and hunting some squirrels while I was there, but just too hot, and I didn't want my bird to spoil.

Oh, yeah, and we're going to crock-pot the bird tomorrow and eat it!

Life is good. I'm glad I put in for the leftover tag now!
