My new Optima 209
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:00:12 PM »
Guys

My new Optima came in on Friday and I love it. The fit and finish are very good and the fiber optic sights are real metal and very bright.

I shot a three shot group yesterday to check the sights and load before heading to the camp on the river to look for a hog. I shot 250 grain TC Shockwaves over 3 - 50/30 Pyrodex pellets at 25 yards and the sights were dead on and the shots were overlapping each other. I was shooting off hand.

I did not swab b/t shots because I will want 3 shots available when hunting. The 2nd and 3rd shots where not hard to load at all. I came in and cleaned it well with Windex and then dry patched til dry.

Reloaded it and headed to the camp. I did not see any pigs, but did see three nice bucks. I am looking forward to opening day of bow season on the 15th.

I left the Optima loaded since I cleaned it well after checking the sights. I am going to drag out the lead sled next weekend and shoot at 50 yards to check groups. I am thinking it will do 1" outside to outside at 50 with irons.

No thanks! I will stick with less than 100!!! The recoil is not noticeable at all with the 90 grains and it is more than enough punch to kill a deer or hog at less than 150 yards. I will be buying a few packs of the Shockwaves and checking trajectory. I will hopefully be putting a Pentax 50mm in QR rings on it soon. My stepdad said he had one I could have so I am gonna try it.
