Spur necklace

I saw a necklace the other day made out of beads and turkey spurs.  I have a box of turkey spurs, but the skin is still on them. How can I remove the skin so it looks like a small white tube attacked to the spur?  I thought about boiling them, but I was afraid the spur would detach from the bone.  Thanks in advance for your responses.

I cut the bone on each side of the spur with a little electric saw.  Then I use an exacto knife to cut the skin lengthwise and then peel it off.  You will need to cut it off around the spur too.  Then clean out the tendons and a little bit of tissue with your fingers and a small knife blade.  The marrow will wash out easily.  Then you're done.

Word of warning... there is tissue under the spur that can rot.  I would NOT boil them.

I do as dukkillr does with one step added. When I have them "skinned" I stand them up in a cup with chlorine bleach just covering the bone, not the spur and let them soak over night. It gets the bone nice and white and cleans/dissolves any tissue left.

I saw a hat band that had turkey and pheasant spurs all the way around the hat.
Always thought that would be neat and have been saving my spurs since.

Anybudy have any pictures? I was just thinking of doing this myself, like to see some pics to give me some ideas on design.

I think I'm gonna take my binocs this year just to scope out the spur lengths. I'd like one of those necklaces with a set of limbhanger spurs!
