I just don't know how this could of happened when they were just 15 feet apart from each other.

The two were hunting a bull elk and reportedly standing within 15 feet of each other when Omann's compound bow discharged.

Something does not add up with this statement from the article..

Kinda like the woman who accidentally shot her husband 6 times with a 357 mag?!? I was not there but could it have been "buck fever" and or tunnel vision if it was truly an accident? It seems fishy to me but whatever the outcome a tragedy! I pray for both men and their families.

I don't see any way to call it anything other than what it is. MURDER.

I can't see any possible scenario under which I would accidently shoot someone at 15' or 15 yards or whatever with a bow or gun. Now with a gun it would be possible to shoot at and miss game or hit it and the bullet go thru and hit a person a long way off that is unseen. Still ya really ought to know what's in the path of that bullet before letting it go. Same for the arrow but at bow ranges I just do not see any excuse for shooting a human other than you wanted to kill them.

I wasn't there and I can't know but this guy sure wouldn't want me on his jury.

Tunnel vision, a little adrenalin, and camouflage would add up in my mind.

Here in South Africa a bow hunter was accidentally shot and killed by his wife.
It happened about a month ago. They were in the hide together, the impala
came in and she drew the bow but didn't get a shot. He tried to help her
to quietly let down again. With this she shot him in the leg and he died
on the way to the dr. So yes it can happen.

Interesting thread. So if it was a recurve, long or compound bow, he was at full draw.  Either because he thought there was game he was preparing to shoot at, or because it had a draw lock as Ron 1 said.  Or, possibly he was hunting with an X-bow and had the safety off and finger on the trigger.   Indexing the finger is not something most folks understand, but it does help avoid shooting things and people you do not intend to shoot. Then again as  GB and hunt-m-up posted, it very well may have been intentional.

I think GB and Hunt-m-up are pretty much spot on, as I was thinking this myself.

Sumpin ain't zactly Kosher in Pickleville!

Accidental discharge from a faulty release or too light release trigger...maybe. Arrow clipped a limb and turned? "Accidentally on purpose?" sound more likely.
