How well do 38s shoot out of the 357 rifle barrel? Not concerned about power, just plinking and small game accuracy. I have a bunch of 38 spl rounds for my handguns be nice to have a rifle to shoot them also.

They shoot fine in my Marlin however you must clean the crud ring before shooting 357.  For plinking I load 38 loads in 357 brass then I don't have to worry.  I shot some 357s 158gr. xtps loaded with 18gr of Lil'gun in a GP100 and had some flattened primers with hard extraction.  Couldn't understand why because Lil'gun supposed to have low pressure.  Finally figured out it was the 38s I had been shooting.

I've been shooting .38's in carbines for many moons. They usually shoot very well, better than some 22's. My NEF in .357 will shoot CCI blazers into 2" at 50 yards all day long. 158 gr. lrn's seem to be the most accurate in general. I had a Rossi '92 .357 that was extremely accurate with .38's but didn't always feed them well. My marlin 1894 CP (16" .357) shoots about 2-1/2" or better at 50 yards with just about any .38 load. I just bought a marlin 1894 CBC .38 that is awsome! Clean your chamber and barrel with lead removal cloth strips over a tight fittin jag or bore brush. Don't use it on the outside of the gun, I've heard it can remove blueing, but I havn't seen any evidence of that myself. Lead flat points are good for small game. .38's are very quiet from a 20" barrel. Lots o' fun!

I have a Marlin 62 that I had converted to 357 from 256 Win mag. It handles the 38s very well. I use it for the grandkids first centerfire. I like it myself as a knockabout carried in a scabbard in the car. It is amazingly effactive on Blacktails at close range using the 357 Mags. Best of luck. POW

I don’t know why you would have any trouble at all with .38 Specials out of the .357 Mag rifle barrel.   I have been using them in rifles and pistols both with excellent results

As said before, just clean out the crud ring when you are done.
