Tim/Bob -
With a 6 digit serial number, top break/hinged frame, 5 shot .38S&W - it is most likely an early to mid 1920's Auto Ejector.  If you can post the stampings on the top of the barrel rib as well as what is stamped on the left side of the barrel - we can narrow it down as to exact Model and variation with a better idea of YOM.
