Replacement Model 7 Stock ??
« on: October 05, 2010, 02:44:25 AM »
I recently bought a used Model 7 Predator. I put a Timney trigger in & shortly have some Warne bases & rings coming. I am not to impressed with the factory stock. I put on a sling I had around & could feel & hear the stock move/rub with the barrel as pressure on the sling stud varied. The barrel is also rather tight against the channel. I don't plan on another stock until I do some test firing, & don't want to rush to dump more $$ into what started out as a fairly good deal.  I see the model 7 stocks will fit this 'Predator' model with some sanding out of the barrel channel. I could also look at opening up the factory stock that's on it?

Any thoughts on some of this? Replacement stock? Opening up current one? The replacements don't seem all that expensive. Does a broom handle wrapped with sandpaper qualify as the proper tool to open up a channel?  Just getting ideas, thanks.

No not really. The barrel on the Predator isn't a full bull it's tapered so nothing of a single diameter is quite gonna get the job done in my opinion. Both my Predators are extremely accurate and yes the stock fits very tightly on both. The .17 Fireball is a half MOA gun and the .223 shoots under an inch with several loads.

If/when you decide to get rid of the Predator stock (a bad idea in my opinion) I'd like to discuss it with you.

Also the predator barrel isn't the standard barrel contour it's the magnum contour.

Thanks, I hear you have a few of the #7s/Predators. I looked it over today and think I have to at least give it a chance. That would be my range trip, hopefully Thursday. The color of course is all matched up, so that is a plus as to keeping the original stock.

I went to the range & all with stay as is. I had some old ammo  from a rifle trade a while back. I shot some of it while getting the scope close. Then I sighted in with my 85 grn Sierra handloads. Since I ran out of room in the safe I'll have the rifle somewhat available if I see that back property coyote this fall/winter.
