Will a H&R 1871 Stock fit 158 Topper Frame?
« on: October 05, 2010, 12:26:01 PM »
I am thinking of redoing an old 158 Topper Shot Gun I acquired recently.  The stock has 2 DEEP dents in it.  I know I could use wood filler but what are the chances I could get a new one instead.  I have looked @ gun stocks inc but they dont do the forearms for 158 Toppers.  (my gun has the snap on fore arm)

Maybe, maybe not, the only way to know is try it, the forend won't work without modification since they're all screw on. I had an early 70's M158, a modern stock didn't fit it well, the angle of the stock bolt was slightly different.

I will try to get some pics on here.  Someone refinished and did not remove the frame from the stock and wore off the blueing where they mate.

Does anybody make reproduction stocks for these.  I already tried Gun Stock inc they only make stocks for current production.

Not necessarily, they pretty much put all the H&R single shot common parts in one spot.

if they put all the single shot parts together,  there is no to know if the part will fit Right?    Other than that it looks like what I am looking for.

One other thought for you would be that you might be able to steam out the dents.  Don't know how bad they are, but if you steam the wood it will often raise the grain enough to re-sand down to level.  Just another idea.  ;)

if they put all the single shot parts together,  there is no to know if the part will fit Right?    Other than that it looks like what I am looking for.

They do list serial number ranges for some parts, other than description, that's about it.
