Shotshells in semi autos
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:00:14 AM »
A while back I posted about using shotshells in my Glock 21. (Sorry couldn't find the thread with search)

Anyway, I finally got around to going to town and gett'n some! Newsflash! It (CCI) cycles in my 21, I was actually surprised.  :o

Not only did it cycle, at about ten feet it peppered a pictue of a snake(a skinny snake) I drew on freezer paper. I would not hesitate to use it at 15 feet either.  Like any shotshell at very close range (5 ft) it made a small pattern of about 3 inches
Now I wont blow holes in the chicken coop with the 410  ::)
JUST FYI

If they will feed and function the slide they will work.
I live in the country in a house that has a concrete porch all the way around it.
Copperheads are quite frequent visitors.
In about 12 years I have used a box and a half of CCI .38/.357 shot loads in a Trooper MK III.
You don't even have to aim, just point and fire and the copperhead is mangled. I have never had to use a second shot.
The nice thing is, I can't even find where I have shot in the past--no damage to the concrete.

Yea I had some experience with shot loads in revolvers, but I was skeptical that they would cycle in an auto. I was prepared to cycle by hand but they worked just fine. Looking forward to some snake and rat killin!

When I pointed at the middle of the drawing at least eight pellets hit from ten feet. when I pointed at the head one went through the head and eight or nine went through the body.

I tried them in 9 mm , 40 S&W and 45 acp. none would cycle . You are a lucky man. I tried CCI's in all and Remington shot round in 45 acp. also. The remington came closest to working. They are all brass with a bana peel looking end.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

If you are making a dedicated snake carry gun, you could install a slightly weaker recoil spring until they will work.  It would still allow light ammo for stopping more formidable targets at close range if you didn't have to go to light.  8)  Just a thought.

In the past I"ve used the cci and an older box of win. the ones with the crimped mouths in my sw 422 but had to cycle by hand.

I was really surprised that they cycled. But they did, at least the two I tried and the third round in the magazine was a 230 gr hollow pt and it chambered after the last shot shell. Believe me I figgered I would have to cycle manually.
