Checked out my rifle hunting area

Spent this past weekend near Orr and had time to do a little scouting. Deer sign looked about the same as other years and did spot a few deer in the general area. I hunt in the Kabetogema and keep my older travel trailer at my buddies resort (Norway Point Resort) on Pelican Lake. We checked out the trailer and put a new plastic tarp over the top and then cleaned it out for the big November rifle hunt. We tow it to the Kabetogema and stay in it for 10 days or so.

It was my wifes birthday and she accompanied me to Manysodas as well. We had a nice meal at Melgeorges on Elephant Lake on Saturday evening and a great pizza at Norway Point Resort on Friday. We stayed the weekend at Norway Point Resort in a nice cabin overlooking the lake and just hated to drive home on Sunday.

Sometimes the planning is as much fun as the hunt. How are your preps coming along?

I spent some time in Buyck in 2003 and was impressed by the amount of deer and size of bucks there. Did you see much bear sign? I'm looking for a place to hunt bear in Minnesota and hopefully around Crane Lake or Buyck.

Hunt a bit East of Deroit Lakes. Final prep will be Oct 16/17. Pretty good sign this yr.

Have not really concentrated on bear scouting but you could get a hold of the fine folks at Norway Point who have some contacts in the area concerning bear hunting. You can send me a private message here on the board and I can give you some numbers to call. The Buyck/Crane Lake area is 1/2 hour from where I hunt and my buddy once spoke of a bear guide he knew in that area who was always helpful with info.
