Question: did the fellow in office on Jan 19, 2009, almost dance for joy when he turned over his office and his financial disaster to the newly elected fellow?

Question #1 Don't know/care who said it, but if it were in context, it would surely be associated with full employment at home.

Question #2 A rather inept, clueless question. The Bush administration requested passage of certain bills to save the economy, but the bills never got out of Democrat dominated committees..DUH

Question #3 Where did dance for joy spin come from ? Naturally Bush was tired of the lies by Dems and their media allies, but surely, like many of us he was concerned..and wondered.."How could so many millions of Americans be so stupid" ?

I think naming either party as the cause of the Great Depression #1 is an exercise in futility.  The politics of both parties were so different back then that they're not really valid in a modern day comparison.  A lot of the older Republicans in modern times used to be Democrats.  The parties did a good bit of flip-floping on various issues.

Strom Thurmond for example, from my own state, was a Democrat from 1946, and then later switch to the Republican party in 1964 as political views of each party shifted.  He remained there until he left the senate in 2003.

The Democrats and Republicans of the 1930's are really separate parties who happen to have the same names as the two parties in power today.

   Nearly 2 years ago Obama & the Dems passed a "stimulus" bill. Put us in more debt to the tune of almost a TRILLION dollars. Unemployment was hovering close to 8%. Obama came on TV..read his prompters and declared that with the stimulus bill signed, unemployment would never exceed 8%..
   It is now almost 2 years later and the unemployment rate hovers near the 10% level ! He said it wouldn't come near 8%...but was he talking about it being 2 points HIGHER than his 8% promise ?

   The stimulus worked alright ! It didn't produce any private sector jobs, but it did produce govt jobs..handing out stimulus money.
  It did "stimulate" crooked politician's bank accounts however.. Just this morning the news was that in one sector of the stimulus alone, there was $162,000,000 dollars which they could not account for.

The Radical Right would go back to the 1950's.  Low divorce rate, mothers stayed home, life was more simple.  STD's were almost eliminated.  Average age for first sexual experience was 18.  Sure we need equal rights added, but that is all, no affirmative action.  We didn't have a federal welfare or food stamp program, didn't need it.  If someone was hungry, chruches and charities took care of them.  50% of the American people attended church regularly.  Crime rates were low.  No gun control.  Common sense ruled.  Abortion was illegal.  Things were very nice from what I remember as a kid and very safe.  Democrats have changed drastically since Roosevelt.  Southern Democrats used to be conservative, they switched to being Republicans during Reagan and Clinton years.  Our senator Shelby in Alabama used to be a conservative democrat, but switched during the Clinton administration.  Shelby opposed almost everything Clinton wanted.  When Alabama won the national football championship back in I think 1992, Shelby was only given one ticket to the dinner held for the team at the whitehouse.  It was a slap in Shelbys face since all the other democratic congressmen and senators got 8 tickets for the dinner for their families.  Shelby a conservative as well as a lot of other southern conservative democrats switched parties.  Dems have been taken over by the far left.  Republicans are actually more moderate than what I consider conservative, but they are better than the alternative.

Powderman, open your mind and read your own posts in this very topic.  A Protestant Taliban is EXACTLY what the far right wants for the USA.  By the way, there is very little difference between your god and the god of the Taliban.  The wannabe Protestant Taliban wants strick enforcement of what's written in their book--in their interpretation--and the Islamic Taliban wants the same thing.

His Minister of Protestant Vice and Virtue will control who can and can't have a parade.  Marriages must pass his test.  So must adoptions.  Sex education is a no no.  I assume male doctors must operate on female patients via a mirror.  Anything remotely promoting sexual arousal, in the Minister's opinion, is illegal.  If birthing a fetus will kill the mother, she births it anyway.  If all that isn't calling for a Protestant Taliban, I'm a monkey's uncle--which, by the way, will be forbidden words as it might promote the teaching of evolution.....

Junior, it is a psycological fact that children raised by both a mother and a father are more wholesome and well rounded, get in trouble less, and have higher grades in school.  Having two mothers or two fathers is a confusion to children.  It is also a fact from 6 studies by the US government from the 1950's on that only 1-3% of American men are actually homosexual, with another 7-10% having tried it but gave it up.  They yeild far more infulence than they should.  They can do whatever they want behind closed doors, but I don't want my children subjected to their influence.  The only way they can expand their numbers is by recruiting troubled young boys into their lifestyle.  This is also documented.  Also, I know a nurse personally who was in on a late term abortion in which the baby survived.  They didn't know what to do, so they took it out to be adopted.  Abortion especially after 5 months is murder.  Even in Europe, abortion is outlawed after 5 months.  God is judging our nation because of these sins, whether we like it or not.  Christians are just trying to stop the insanity and return to a more peaceful, tranquil society like back in the 1950's.

You are missing what he said.  He wasn't actually talking about a literal "protestant taliban" but about the Christian theocracy movement that seems to be gaining some steam in America today.  An intolerant imposition of ones strict (some would say distorted) Christan views and an attempt to legislate them into law.  At least that's what I take it to mean.

I think the word Christian in this quote could easily be replaced by the word liberal or progressive. The question is, based on the facts, which view is right and which view is wrong. Which one promotes the well being of all and which one is harmful? Which one builds up a society and which one tears it down? Which one is selfish and self centered and which one is charitable? I'm not sure what facts are in discussion.  I would argue that we shouldn't replace that "Christian" with "liberal" or "progressive" or "muslim" or "hindu" or "crazy-tin-foil-hat-conspiracy" or anything else.  We should eliminate it. 

When I say I'd like less government intrusion into my life, I mean it.  I realize that sometimes that means that there will be no one officially sanctioning my own personal beliefs, and I'm ok with that.  I have the self confidence to stand by my ideas and beliefs without trying to codify them.  I want people to be free to choose their own path, even if it is diametrically opposed to my own. 

I'm not trying to tread on yours, and I ask only the same in return. 

I grew up believing that I was a conservative because I opposed social programs and government intervention.  What I discovered was that a good deal of what used to be "conservative" is now seeking to push their own legislative agenda.  The true limited government people have been forced to seek shelter in the term "Libertarian".
