I really shouldn't post until it's here and I have pics but I can't stand the wait! Ken called and she'll be coming back to me on Saturday and I'm as anxious as a new puppy whinning by the back door! It is now a 5 1/2" barrel (which retains all the factory markings). It is interesting the other problems that Ken Kelly at Mag-na-port found. (no, it will not have slots in the barrel) Besides needing the ejector rod housing stud replaced and the grip frame needing polished, He also found the barrel was loose in the frame, and the trigger screw hole was stripped! It took a little ingenuity to fix the trigger but Ken is a real master gunsmith! (He does fantastic custom work!) He also polished out the ring around the cylinder and several other cosmetic flaws.
So here I am hoping I get it early enough Saturday to take it shooting right off. I know it will shoot low until I take a little off the front sight since it did a little with the 7 1/2" barrel and we re-used the same sight but now it further up on the taper of the barrel. So I'll have to do a little sighting in with a file. It was dead on for windage so I'm sure that will still be close, even with the barrel repair. If not, I'll whack the front sight on the side of the shooting bench until it is. (I can just see some of you cringing at my even suggesting that!) If it's just a little, I'll just open up the rear sight notch a little on the proper side. These old eyes can use lots of light around the front sight anyway. But all of this is just speculation until I can sit down with it and shoot it again. They say you learn patience by waiting, but I really don't want to learn it THAT bad!!! ha ha. 44 Man
