Is this a good buy ??
« on: October 07, 2010, 09:11:42 AM »
I was in the pawn shop a while ago and there was a 45/410 TC Contender pistol (the old type) marked $250. This little tender still looks brand new. I really can't afford it right now but surely I have something worth 250 dollars I can sell (kidney, wife, kids, etc.) My brother had one about 10 years back and it was not very accurate and would only shoot 3-4" groups at 25yds when shooting with any 45colt ammo.  He traded the barrel off and got a 30-30 barrel and is much happier.  This doesn't sour me on the contender or 45colt at all because of the very long jump the slug had to take to reach the rifling, so I'm aware that these are not the most accurate barrels.  I'm more interested in the frame.  It has walnut grips, no scratches or wear marks on either wood or metal.  Like I stated before it looks new.  Another question, does the new (G-2) barrels fit this old frame ??  And what do you think at $250 ??

$ 250.00...........I would jump on it.  Sell a big toe or a ear  LOL.  My friend got a contender pistol at the last gun show blued in 22 hornet, he payed $460.00 in vary good plus shape.  The new G2 barrels will fit the old contender frame.  Hope this helps.

I swung by the ATM and it reminded me I'm flat broke, pulled out the secret cookie jar where I like to hide money and there was only cookie crumbs.  As for selling a kidney, I'm to much of a coward.  My wife, she would cost another fella too much so I know I could never get any money out of her.  My teen-age boys are worthless because you got to feed them.  So as usual, I run across a bargin and have no money, if I didn't have bad luck I'd have none at all.  But if any of you live in NC close to Charlotte and would be interested let me know and I'll give you a phone# and directions.    Dave

why not ask them if you can make payments on it, or look trough your stuff and see of you cna come up with some things you can do with out.  I doubt that the pawn shop knows what he has and you may be able to talk him down some, remember you always have your wedding ring you can pawn to get money for it and just tell the wife you lost it.

The 45/410 is a very fun barrle, You are right it doesnt  shoot the 45 colt real well but it was never intended to shoot them well. it is at its best for close range 410 shooting for bunnys or tree rats.

Yes, it's a great price!  See if the pawn shop will do a layaway.  I paid almost that much for a 45/410 barrel about a year ago!   If you can get them to layaway, start saving for a Super 14 30-30 barrel to hunt with.  Can't go wrong with a 14" 30-30.

I just paid $210 total for a frame (G1).  Lay-a-way sounds like a good plan.
I aim to please - but often miss.
