Using .223 dies for a 22-250 ?
« on: December 07, 2003, 04:09:50 PM »
I have been loading .223 for some time. I just bought a 22-250 bolt gun. (Winchester model 70 Coyote). I plan to neck size only on the 22-250. Any reason I can't use the .223 dies for bullet seating and for neck sizing?

won't work, the 22-250 will not even enter a 223 standard die body. The shoulder on the 250 is .413" vs .375" base of the .223

.....Just as the other post states...it just won't work that way due to the larger case of the 22-250 ....but it will work the other way...a 22-250 die can be used to neck size a 223 as the specs for the neck diameters are very close......if you want to experiment with neck sizing the 223 and don't want to buy a neck sizing die or do partial full length resizing in the 223 die....for the 223...for a bolt gun only.......besides you need to get some more goodies when you order /pick up the new 22-250 dies anyway....lol....good luck and good shooting-loading!!!

If you have Hornady dies, you can use the seating die for .22-250.  With Hornady dies, they use the same seater for all rounds of a given caliber. All .22 Cal rounds use the same seater die, all .30 cal rounds use the same seater die, etc.  Otherwise, probably not.
