H&R broken fireing pin
« on: October 08, 2010, 06:08:13 PM »
I have a Topper Deluxe 20 ga that I use for Hunter Ed classes. I gets shot a lot with live ammo, and dry firing on an empty shell. The firing pin finally broke. Is this common, did the dry firing on an empty shell contribute to this, and how easy is it to replace the pin myself?

It's easy to replace, but you must R&R the frame to remove it unless the transfer bar is broken/worn and it flops back out of the way, you can order it from Brownell's. See Perklo's trigger hone download for instructions on how to R&R the trigger and hammer group, the top pin must be removed to release the firing pin and spring.

I bought the firing pin from Brownells, downloaded the instructions, then decided no to do it. For $16 I sent it to H&R (now Remington) repair, and told them that it had over 5,000 rounds through it. They replaced the firing pin, firing pin spring, barrel catch spring, and cleaned it up real nice. I had it back in 3 weeks. no charge. You gotta love these guys.

That's pretty much normal for them, be sure to post a reply and vote in the Ilion Satisfaction poll in the FAQs, this thread will be buried in a week.  ;)
