English Rook Rifle
« on: December 07, 2003, 06:17:54 PM »
Hello all---I picked up a pretty little side lever Rook rifle in 297/250 with a handfull of loaded rounds; now I need to find
some reloadable brass. Does anyone have any, or make them? Thanks--Zane

I'd try Rocky Mountain Cartridge or Buffalo Arms for brass. CH-4D would be the best choice for dies. Can you tell me more about the rifle? I kind of like the small British rifles, especially the martini actions.

I have two of the lttle Morris chamber rifles.

I got my brass from Buffalo Arms, $40 a hundred.  http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,3849.html  You can make your own brass from .22 hornet cases but is a little labor instensive.  The rims have to be thinned and the neck after being fire formed must reamed.  The necks will be very thick as it is being made from the body of the Hornet case.  i made one ands then called Buffalo.

Dies I got from CH4D www.ch4d.com You will find them listed on page 5 of the die list. $69

I get my bullets from Liberty Shooting Supplies [/url]http://www.libertyshootingsupplies.com/html/long_gun_bullets.html I use their 45 gr round nose with out the gas check.

I haven't done a lot of work with this caliber yet.  One rifle has a pit in the chamber and a ramrod is needed to extract cases. The other rifle I just recently acquired and haven't shot but five or six rounds through it.

the first one is very pleasant to shoot and seems reasonabley accurate.  This spring I am going start some serious work with these rifles.

Thanks for the help. Glad to see Buffalo Arms has added this case; it was not listed in the last cat. I have from them. CH is not to far from me so I will probably give them a call for the dies.
The rifle is a little side lever made by J.C. Hardy of Holbeach, re-lined to 297/250 ex. bore checkered stock, forearm and butplate. The wood has very good figure and the pistol grip is finished with a silver cap. The barrel is finished on the top with a full length wave pattern to reduce glare and has a sight set for 50 meters and a flip up set for 100. All in all a cute litte rifle that is only about 4 pounds. The last item I will need is a mold for .251 bullets. The 25 acp mold is the only one I can think of in this diam. so I will try it first. Thanks again for the help.--Zane

May I suggest you visit  Liberty Shooting Supplies  and sample some of their cast bullets.  Then when you find one that works buy a mould for the bullet.

A good company to look at for a bullet mould is The Ammo Dump.  They are in Australian and will make you a mould at a reasonable price.  Quality product quickly delivered and good selection of designs.
