Please say a prayer for my mother.
« on: October 11, 2010, 07:44:56 AM »
Please say a prayer for my mother. My wife and I have been taking care of my mother for about 10 years now. She has been in bad health for many years. I made a promise to my mother when I was in my early 20's to never put her in a home. This has been very hard on my wife and I. Although it has been harder on my wife. It has been my wifes full time job for almost 10 years taking care of my mother. She has been bed ridden for a very long time now and I have even had to help change diapers and roll her. We put her in hospice care here at home a couple weeks ago because it has become to much for my wife to take care of her on her own when I am working and this is the only way I could see to keep my promise of keeping her out of a home. Well she took a turn for the worse last Friday after her family from Ohio came in to visit. The nurse from hospice just left and says she thinks she only has days at most and it could be hours. The priest was here a little while ago and gave her last rights. I have had a long time to prepare myself for this day but it does not make it any easier. I am going to miss my mother. :'( Please say a prayer for her. Her name is loretta Risher and she will soon be with my dad, sister and brother. Thanks and take care Dale

Said a prayer for your mom.  My mom lives with me also.  She is 95 now.  Hard on the wife as you said.

Prayers sent for your Mother and for you & your wife.
It is a nobile thing you have taken upon yourself to do.
I too have made the same promise to my Father who lives with us.
He is 82 and still in good health.
I remember helping to do the same things you have said when my Fathers Mother (my Grandmother) lived with us until her passing.
It is very hard and one is never really prepaired for the final days.
We will all take comfort in the thought that they are where they long to be, with The LORD all mighty and their loved ones who have gone on before them!

Thanks for the support. I don't think my mother will make it through the night. Her brothers and sisters are staying with her in her room tonight. Thanks and take care Dale

Prayers said for you, your wife, and especially your mother. Good for you on having the clergy visit your mother.

Peace be with you.

Very sorry to hear this Dale. Like many of us you made a promise, and kept it. I did the same for both Mom and Dad, they both only wanted to stay at home till the end. I kept those promises both times, and they were hard. Looking back I take great comfort knowing they were much happier and better taken care of.
And thank God for Hospice care, couldn't have done it without those great people! I still donate to them after all these years.
Good to hear your mothers brothers and sisters are there with her. You are all in my prayers, and God Bless.

Thanks for the Prayers sent. We could all use one sent on our behalf at one time or another but my Mother could use them now for sure so thanks. She has Renal shutdown so her Kidney's have stopped working. It is just a matter of time now and to say I am very sad and upset would be an understatement. :'( I lost my Dad 13 years ago when my daughter was just a little over a year old. He sure did love that little girl. It took me years to get over his loss. They say time heals all wounds. Yes it does but it sure can take a long time. Take care Dale

DALE. I'm truly sorry to see you go through this. My Mother took care of Grandma for a lot of years. It's a hard job. She about ruined her back picking Grandma up and everything else. Takes a special kind of love to hang in there like you and your wife have done. I've never met you, but I'm proud of you my friend. Prayers will continue. Done.  After  my father died several years ago I asked people on this board to pray for me and some of them must have.   I made it through some tough times.

I am happy to return the favor.   I admire your family loyalty.

Dale, You have shown yourself to have honored your mother as we are all commanded to honor our father and mother.  It will go well with you as God has promised.  Prayers have been sent for your mother.

She is still hanging in there. She knows my voice and tries to respond to me but she does not have the strenght to get the words out. She is a lot of pain and I think it would be best for her for it to just be over. :'( Thanks again for the prayers. Dale

I am very sorry to hear this Dale. My wife laid in a coma for 13 months. When i got the call at 2:30 in the morning that she was gone. All i could say was thank you God. She is now in a better place. She was 59 years old. Maybe time heals all wounds but i haven't figured out how much time. Once again. I am very sorry you have to go through this.

My mother passed away at about 10:30 am. :'( My wife and I have to meet with the funeral director at 11:00 am tomorrow. I just got back from Wal Mart where I bought some new clothes for the funeral. I will be dressed all in black. I am very upset over this and would feel very alone if it were not for my wife and daughter. I am happy I have them. I keep trying to tell myself this is best because she has not had any quality of life in a very long time and she is no longer in pain. I am having a hard time believeing she is really gone. Thanks and take care Dale
