Got a snap that won't stay snapped?
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:11:32 AM »
If you have a snap closure that tends to come un-snapped, you can place the male end of the snap on a vise or anvil, and gently peen the top of it.  This will enlarge the circumferance of the snap button and it will seat much tighter in the female side.

First thing I do to a pair of boxer shorts is peen the snap so whenever I bend over at the waste, my belly doesn't cause my boxers to come un-snaped.  Works on boat covers too.

If you don't have an anvil, simply take a small pair of plyers and gently squeeze the female side of the snap, slighly warping it, and it will hold much better.

You can also take a punch just a tad bigger than the inside of the male and tap the punch into the center lightly.  Only takes a couple and it evenly pushes the metal out all along the circumference.  If you go slightly too far, just take some 220 grit sandpaper and reduce the diameter a bit.  8)
