1895 Guide Gun stock help
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:07:09 PM »
All,

I have a straight grip Marlin 1895 Guide Gun in 45/70. I want to change the stock out to a pistol grip style. Where can I get a new pistol grip stock for this gun and will a stock from a 336 fit on an 1895?

I already found a replacement lever, so all I need now is the stock.

Thanks in advance for the help.

[I already found a replacement lever, so all I need now is the stock.]

Only if you like a one inch deep hollow underneath the lever loop where the curve of the new lever drops away from the metal of the straight lower tang when closed - otherwise, you'll also need a PG action bottom plate/tang.

The stocks are almost interchangeable, but may require minor fitting, since Marlin fits each buttstock to it's own receiver & numbers them alike to ensure they are rejoined after finishing.

Bob's Gun Shop & Cabela's has PG stocks.

check out marlinowners.com, i bet you could find somebody over there that would be willing to trade all their pistol grip parts for straight grip parts. to do it right you should replace the trigger plate when you replace the stock and lever.
I'm just a bitter Christian clinging to my gun.

Thanks, I see what you mean about the bottom plate. It may still be my winter project, because I really like the feel and look of a pistol grip.
