I'm back. Most disappointing opening week I've seen in years!
I saw one deer and one coyote in 8 days! Killed the deer and missed the coyote. But at least I have my leg of fawn for T'giving and Christmas.
The big buck was on my camera once; in the middle of the night. It looks like he left my area of the farm since he left a line of scrapes on one of our access roads then walked past my hunting buddy's (Tom's) camara... At 08:45 in the morning! ... while Tom was sitting in a stand 100 yards away.
They all seem to be nocternal and it doesn't look like the rut has kicked in. Not even the pre-rut actually. No sign except for that one buck's scrapes. That's strange because by opening day the pre-rut is usually well under way.
Tom called me this morning and he shot a doe at 07:35. It made him feel somewhat better since last week he missed what he says is the biggest buck he's ever seen on the farm... but you know how that is!
Anyway, he missed a fifty yard standing broadside shot!
TWICE!!!!
He said he was shaking so bad the scope was just a blur!
hey Richard,
the strangest looking Cow horn buck I have ever seen. Litterally a single long curved tine on each side.
Hey Gregg! One of the bucks on my cam was a cow horn spike like that also! That's the one I had my sights set for rather then the 4's or 6's that were running around!
But now I'd like to see anything!
I'm going again this weekend of course... and every weekend between now and Thanksgiving... Kathie doesn't know yet...
