Mexico: Tne New Somalia
« on: October 17, 2010, 11:24:39 AM »
With the Mexican government increasingly  challenged  by Mexican Drug Cartels, Mexico is approaching the status of a country in name only, where war lords and anarchy prevail.   If we do not militarize our border, that anarchy will spill over into the US.

Interesting read.

It has been this way for a long time. My mom taught on a Navy base (in the US, decades ago). Her students (Navy pilots) were not allowed to go to TJ. Too dangerous. It was however safe for them to go to war, have live fire exercises, do survival training, etc. She used to go for the bullfights. She was bad ass.

About 12 years or so ago, my then 13 year old son and I drove down Baja, to Cabo San Lucas, in a '86 Suburban, camping on beaches in the middle of nowhere. Once we got out of Tijuana, it was a really great trip. Friendly people, no hassles at all with the 4 or so military check-points we went through each way ( no shake-downs, no pilfering, etc ). Really nice country, rugged, much like the American west was probably in the 1920's. It impressed me enough to where I gave some consideration to moving there, at some point.
BUT, no way in the world would I do that trip again....I'd say in the last 5 years or so ( from what I've read ) things have simply gone crazy. The year I went down was just before the elections that removed the old, ruling party that held office for so long ( PRI ??, or was in PAN??). I think that maybe that party had kept the craziness down with strick enforcement. I mean, back then no doubt drugs were still being smuggled, etc., it's just that recently it is simply upside down !! Really too bad, and I feel sorry for the average, family person down there, having to live in constant fear, and of course, it is very tough for an average citizen down there to own a firearm for self defense. Can't say that I have any suggestions on how things will get better down there...corruption is just so very common, at all levels. I wish them well, and good luck.

A lot of blood will spill before it gets better.  I know where there are about 20 million more to throw into the fray.

The feds have put signs in ENGLISH facing North 70 miles INSIDE OUR BORDER warning Americans that travel in that area is dangerous because of FOREIGN criminals who go there. And osama is suing AZ, the gov, and at least 2 sheriffs for wanting to enforce the law. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

A little anarchy might not be a bad thing ;)

We need to totally redo our own government, get our priorities straight.  Then go back into Mexico again and kick them good.  Only this time we do not need to walk out like we did before.  If we do history is bound to repeat itself and they will be at our throughts again in a few years.  This time we need to annex them.  They all want to live in America anyway.

I disagree with the analogy. The Mexican government has every incentive to allow the drug lords to continue operating while appearing to work against them.  There is over 40 billion dollars of US money going into Mexico every year for drugs and it is very valuable trade to Mexico.

Right you are trust me in Mexico everything is all about the money.
Their government and all of it's bureaucracies are worse criminals than the cartels.

That's right, the Mexican Government is just as corrupt as the Drug Cartels.

That is why our Marines need to return to the Halls Of Montazuma.  Clean out the corrupt officials, then annex the entire land mass, and make it a teritory.  Once it has been cleaned up, let each state submit a request to become a state of the US or remain a territory.  Most would want to become a state.  It would solve the border problem, and all jobs that has been moved to Mexico would once again bacome American Jobs.

Sourdough ,I usually agree with you, but that is a terrible idea. We do not need to make that corrupt country any part of the USA! I know you said clean it up, but I don't believe that can be done.
Just put a mine field along the border and through the ones here out!

How right you are Beerbelly.  We need fewer Mexicans, not more of them.  We don't need tens of millions new  Democratic Voters that would arise from the annexation of Mexico. That's why the Democrats are so anxious to give statehood to Puerto Rico:  More Democrat congressmen and two new permanent Democrats in the US Senate.

Mexico is a purported "democracy" and has the toughest gun control laws in  Latin America.  No sane person wants them to be part of the American electorate.

Mexicans are a mess and would be a permanent affirmative action, welfare, entitlement class in the US.  Mexico was colonized in 1519, one hundred years before North America.  They had a 100 year head start on us and attained their independence in 1810. The result?  Mexico  has been a perpetually chaotic,  dysfunctional disaster for more than 200 years of rule by dictators, mass murderers and criminals.   We don't need any more of their teeming millions of welfare cases

In the aftermath of the Mexican War in the 1840's, John C. Calhoun argued strongly AGAINST annexing Mexico because of the corrupting influence of that culture, even then.  Round 'em up!  Ship 'em out!

OK Guys I can see your points.  I was just trying to come up with a permanate solution.  Since our hands off polocies has not worked I think it is time to try something else a bit more drastic.
