Handi .270/20 gauge combo
« on: October 17, 2010, 12:12:10 PM »
Does anyone know if this combo comes with a rifled slug barrel......

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/351/products_id/20995

The description is pretty vague and it must be an old combo because it is not listed on H&R's site.

Thanks :)

At the 26" barrel length, this should be a smoothbore.  I'm no expert though, so maybe one will chime in. 8D

I think you are right, I have done a little searching on Gunbroker and they seem to be smooth bore.

The model number is the same as this combo from the 2006 H&R/NEF catalog. Offered as a Synthetic Handi-Rifle/Pardner Shotgun combo. The 26" shotgun barrel came with a modified choke. Other rifle calibers besides the .270 Win. were .223 Rem., .243 Win., 22-250 Rem and 30/06 Sprg.

There was also a Youth Superlight combo with .223 Rem. and .243 Win.

Looks like a one year deal as there was no mention of it in the 2007 catalog.

I had one in stainless. It was smoothbore and the 270 bbl must have been also. 6" groups at 100 yd. were as good as it would do and I tried several different kinds of ammo, both new and reloads. Needless to say I don't own it now.

Some H&R 270 barrels were overbore, I have one of them that slugs .2795" in the grooves, it shoots handloaded .284" bullets great!! But I also have had 3 other 270 barrels that shot factory and handloads excellent, so I wouldn't pass a great priced combo up, H&R will replace it if happens to be bad.  ;)
