Taurus PT 740 "Slim"
« on: October 18, 2010, 05:16:41 PM »
Hi! Folks. Not really a new guy, just got lost in the move awhile back.

If anyone is looking for a good small CCW pistol, I have been using the Slim .40 for the past few months.
I know some have had issues with various Taurus handguns. This one has been flawless.

I've shot it with everything from 165gr. to 200gr. solids and hp's and gunshow reload 185 gr. hp's.
The pistol has not 1 single failure in about 500 rounds.

It does have the loooong single action trigger travel, with a very crisp break. A little weird at first, O.K. with practice.

The pistol is very easy to conceal, both inside and outside the waist band. I carry it mostly in a Bianchi belt slide holster, made for 1911's.

For me this recoil is not hard to control after about 20 or so rounds to get the feel of the small grip.

Just a little FYI post. YMMV

Hasta la later

Mine has been flawless as well. Actually really like the gun. I did put a hogue handall jr grip on it, upside down of course. made the grip alot better and absorbed some recoil.

I have a 709 slim in 9mm. I do like the pistol but the plastic frame failed, cracked in two spots and bulged out on the upper right side where the plastic is thin. This was after less than 100 rounds of Winchester HP standard 9mm not the hotter +P.  Taurus sent another slim to my dealer. I would not shoot +P or gun show reloads in either the 9 or the 40 model if they tend to fail with standard ammuntion.
