deer/coyote caliber for contender

  I am looking for A caliber that I can whitetail hunt and also shoot A coyote with  my contender pistol. I thinking ranges out to 175/200yds. Light recoil and I would be shooting factory loads.  Somebody had mention the 6.8SPC??  I new at this pistol hunting with the contender!    Thanks

     Using factory ammo really puts a crimp on us Contender shooters.  The 6.8 might be the ticket, but there have been miss-fire issues.  I would prefer the 7-30 Waters.  Factory ammo is available( Federal Cart. only ).  It is a little hard to find and is a little pricey when you do find it.  Midsouth Shooters has it @ $28.XX for a 20 box.  The 6.8 isn't exactly falling off the selves either.  The 30-30 would be a choice too if you could find 125-130gr ammo or even better someone to load you up some 125BT's.  Reed's Ammo might help.  If you're just starting out with your Contender, your anticipated range might be a little ambitious(don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, but that's a pretty fair shot for pistol shooting).  I'd maybe set my sights on a 100yd and work up.  Like I said, no offense to anyone, you maybe a lot better shot with a Contender than I(which wouldn't take much).  My whole point is....you may want ammo that you can shoot a good deal of, in order to see just what you can do at whatever distance.

So - I'd go with a 30-30. If you wanted to go with 2 barrels I prefer a 35 caliber for deer (35 Remington for factory) and a 223 for coyote. 200 yards would be a strech for the 35 Rem though.

Hand loading opens the field exponentially on caliber choice, and pointy bullets always carry their energy and trajectory further than flat nose bullets.  If limited to factory fodder though, I'm with those who say 7-30 Waters.  30-30 might work out that far, but will not be as flat shooting as the Waters.  As much practice as it will take to be proficient at that distance though, you're going to spend hundreds on factory ammo.

Actually, 200 yards would be a stretch for most handgun shooters irrespective of the cartridge.

.243 Winchester doesn't work so pretty good in a Contender.

IF I HAD TO PICK ONE PISTOL BARREL FOR MY CONTENDER IN A FACTORY LOAD THAT YOU CAN BUY AT A MART STORE AND BRING YOUR RANGE IN TO SAY 125 YARDS MAX

run with the 6.8 SPC, I don't believe you will be sorry..I have a 23" rifle barrel and its great!  Am considering a 14" also..If you are interesting in a custom barrel..go with the 6.5 JDJ..there is a good selection of .277 diameter bullets out there for the reloader and several very good factory rounds available also. the 6.5 TCU might be an option, but I would attempt a shot on a whitetail at much over 150 yards with it though.  I have 14" 6.5 TCU that is a tack driver.
