A few questions about my new Encore
« on: December 08, 2003, 07:04:27 PM »
I have yet to shoot my new encore 209X50 and was just wondering about what kind of loads you all are having luck with? I was also wondering about the hornet conversion kits? Are the kits worth it and what is the exact purpose of it?

welcome! my encore likes 100 gr pyrodex with 275 gr precision bullets dead centres. I hate the clean up after pyrodex, so I'm experimenting with cleanshot. the purpose of the hornet conversion is to reduce the amount of spark needed to ignite the powder. the theory is that the 209 primer puts too much flame to the powder, causing inconsistent ignition, which causes fliers. in my humble opinion, the most important benefit is that you get NO blowback into your action. with the 209's, you do get fouling in the action. so, when your done shooting, be sure to pay attention to the action and breechface as well. good luck.

Hello,  I had great sucess with 3-777 pellets and a 295 Powerbelt. I have killed 3 deer this year with my 209-50 and have really enjoyed hunting with my Encore.   Good luck......

Are there many of you out there using the hornet conversion and do you like it?

Give 777 a try.  What an improvement over Pyrodex!  I am currently          245 grain Aero Tip Powerbelt bullets over 3 pellets of 777 with very good accuracy at 100 yards.  By the way, with this bullet accuracy was also good with 2 pellets.  After hunting season I do want to try some of the Precision Rifle bullets also.
