Mossberg Magazine cap?

My son was given a used Model 500. We took the barrel off to clean it and noticed that there is no magazine spring or follower. Is there a way(or tool ) to remove the cap at the end of the magazine without buggering it up ? Thank you 1Longbow

there are some great videos on you-tube with the mossberg 500 assembly-disassembley. i have an older model. to install a spring and follower i had to remove the feed tube. they can be tough to get apart. the tube usually is threaded into the receiver and mossberg used some kind of loc tite.i had to get a bolt and screw it on the feed tube and jamb double nuts together to unscrew the whole feed tube. if you try to do it by hand too rough or use a pipe wrench you can mangle and twist the tube. i forget the bolt size. its a fine thread.  a good hardware or auto store should have it.
