New Stock needed
« on: October 23, 2010, 10:32:00 AM »
I need to get a new stock with a high comb due to a neck problem. The neck is so bad now I need the chiropractors aftre shooting prone! Living in the UK is a problem as few USA companies will ship or put a $100 limit. Has any body used the Boyd's stocks as they look ok. It would be good if I can get on fitted but not completed on the outside. Any ideas or help please.

Boyds has a real good reputation. Another thing to consider would be a "take-off" used stock, if the factory ever made a version with a high comb to suit your needs. A gunsmith named Calhoon, who converts alot of CZ527 to .19 wildcats, sells used barrels and stocks, from those he converts. Might be worth a checking out. Also, if you find what you need, and cannot get the seller to send it to the U.K, maybe think of having it sent to a trustworthy person here in the States, who could then send it to you, "gift", to avoid duty fee's ????

Have you ever considered using a comb pad/elevator?  I have heard that adhesive ones should be considered 'permanent' on wood stocks due to the possibility of marring the stock.  I'll send a couple of links, not endorsing any of them, as I've never used them, just sending as an illustration.  Looks like you can add anywhere from 1/16th up to 1/2 of an inch, maybe more.  I've also seen some that are strap-on style, if the adhesive/marring issue is a concern.  It would be a more simple and less costly route if you can find one that suits your needs.  Good luck.
