Trouble on the horizon....
« on: October 24, 2010, 07:54:15 AM »
There has been a news headline that has gotten a lot of airtime in the last few days that really troubles me. ""Terrorists " are able to buy guns in this country, legally, with our current laws"". What they are really saying is that IF you are on the TERRORIST WATCH LIST (aka the NO FLY LIST) then you can legally buy a gun. What they are not explaining is that there are a lot of good people that are on that list and they can't get off of it, and they can't find out why they were put on it. Teddy Kennedy was on it. (Although I wish he had been on a no drive list back before Chappaquiddick) There are cases of 4 and 5 year old kids on it. There are 80 year old grandmothers on it. The Department of Home Defense adds names to it at will, with no controls whatsoever. ANYONE can be put on that list for no reason, without ever notifiying you, and you have no recourse of any kind to get your name removed from that list, I fully support NOT using that list for ANYTHING, much less using it as a tool to deny a citizen his 2nd amendment right. This is just another backdoor attempt used by liberals in this country to dis-arm us.

Anything that a terrorist can legally do in this country is troublersome. A terrorist should have three rights only. 1 & 2) to be caught and tried 3) to be executed if found guilty.

Spirithawk, I agree fully. The only problem with the abovementioned list is if you were in the military, there is a good chance YOU are on that list. The department of Home Defense has released statements that they feel that our military personnell coming back from Iraq and Afganistan should probably be put on the terrorist watch lists and they may already be doing so.

I'm a disabled Vietnam Vet. It use to take me a full 7 days to get the ok when buying a firearm. Not saying it's true, but when out of frustration I demanded a dealer told me why, he stated that is was because I'm a Vietnam Vet. Now adays it only takes a few minutes and I'm a CCW holder as well. However, it's not the legislations we hear about that worries me, as much as it's the ones that they sneak through! When I first got home from Nam I discovered that the Air Force was ordering new recruits not to associate or even talk to us vets. They were told we were unstable, killers and rapists. The Air Force was afraid we'd tell them what Nam was like! Still makes me mad after all this time!

If the above is the case why was Ted Kennedy on the list?

I always get delayed for 2 minutes while I get escalated. So does an FFL I know. I don't believe that the FBI (who does the NICS checks) ever says why you are delayed or denied. You have the option of getting a UPIN which guarantees you a delay followed by an approval (since a UPIN gets escalated automatically for approval) Apples and oranges. BTW, there are no 4 and 5 year olds on the no fly list. Urban myth.

The 7 day thing is probably false. A delay defaults to approval after 3 days. Unless it becomes a deny.

That's the point. There is no rhyme or reason to whom they put on the list. You or I could be put on that list at any time, for no reason, and if they start trying to deny gun sales to anyone on that list, you or I won't be able to buy a firearm. The next step will be since we can't buy one, we can't own one.

I think that a more effective anti gun tactic would involve banning sales to anyone with a vowel in their name.

Works for me. Did I mention the correct spelling of my name is Dgshtr?
