First deer for 10yoa and the .357
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:50:27 AM »

First deer for my oldest boy, Hunter.  In through the front quarter and out the last rib.  Hornady 180XTP and H110.

The morning before this hunt he had a 4pt at 20 yards with a bow in his hands, but I thought he had too much brush in the way.
Got:
Handi VP 22/410, 410, 20, 17M2, .223, 357MAX, 50cal ML SS w/MU plug

Congrats to him. How is the NEF 357 rifle for him? I have an 11 year old that i am looking to get a rifle for. My son is left handed so the single shot would be great.  ;)

WTG Hunter!  A deer to be proud of and a Dad to tell the tale FOREVER.

I chickened out using my 357 Handi-rifle for deer this season.  I want to "test" it on hogs first.  I have had ample opportunities on deer and killed 7 already with a Win 270 and 150 grain bullets.  I still feel chicken to use my 357.

I am glad that Hunter is FULL BORE on his.

Thanks guys!
Shooting it from the bench is about like the .223.  Pop!
Shooting if from shooting sticks I heard him say "ouch" and rub his shoulder, but that was short lived...as you can tell.  I think he had trouble getting it tight against his shoulder on the sticks.

The next evenging after he shot his first, we were in a bowstand together and I shot a large spike.  So I'm tagged out on bucks.  The deer was 33yards at sunset and we heard the deer fall.  Another nice moument together.

He loves bowhunting and we've been seeing a few dandys!  Had a huge 8pt at 30yrds a couple of days ago, but that's 10 past his max distance.  Then a small 8 and 6 last night in the same spot.

Got:
Handi VP 22/410, 410, 20, 17M2, .223, 357MAX, 50cal ML SS w/MU plug
