The weather
« on: October 25, 2010, 01:23:29 PM »
It's raining and it's supposed to rain for another day then turn to snow, low temps of 25 to 29 degrees. The wind is blowing 32 to 35 mph. It's supposed to increase to 37 mph with gusts to 50 mph.I'm glad I don't have snares hung right now.All the pheasant hunters are in town moping around. The secondary roads have no or little gravel on them,it's a sea of mud.
The bright side of the rain is now the ground will be "moist" and dirtholes will be ease to dig, trap stakes will go in easier, the little ditches will flow with water. It's all good.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

We got a little bit of rain today, but there's supposed to be thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. Gives me the morning to do some scouting on some new trapping areas as well as the ADC job I got today. It's all good as long as we don't get to much rain and float away. Wish we had some cooler temps though. Supposed to get to 80 tomorrow.

With my truck still down I'm planning to go duck hunting today instead of trap. I can get the boat in and out with the old van.
But today the wind is a real issue and they say it will be equal to catagory 2 hurrican. Not sure being a person who preaches saftey on the river I should go.  I'm also one of the people they'll call to go out and try to rescue someone if they get in trouble. Most of the duck hunters we've lost here over the years have been because of wind. I know I can run behind the islands and get in and out safe by staying close. But I'm still thinking it might be best to stay in? I also hate hunting in the rain, but right now that has stopped.

Mark, you probably made a wise decision. But I sure wish I had been able to hunt ducks--just ahead of this front. I imagine they are hurtling for the south lands.
