safety question, help
« on: October 25, 2010, 03:57:10 PM »
I'm new to muzzle loading. I have wolf.  My question is I load the rifle today and hunt, see nothing to shoot.  How do I safely leave the rifle over night?  Must I unload it or can I just remove the primer?  Will moisture be an issue and affect how it fires tomorrow?  Thanks

I just remove the primer.
Bringing the ML into a warm area will cause moisture to condense on and in the firearm. If possible, I leave the ML in my truck or garage.
I also use a finger cot (prophylactic for fingers available at drug stores) over the muzzle end to aid in less air movement. I leave the cot on the muzzle at all times as you can shoot right through it with out any accuracy effects as the air in the barrel ahead of the bullet ruptures the cot.
Also , if you are using pellets, you can also remove the breach plug, remove the pellets and push the bullet out the muzzle. This is what I would do if i had to bring the gun in to a heated area.
