Bullet Won't Feed
« on: October 30, 2010, 05:43:55 AM »
I have a WCFN that will not feed in rifle intended for.
Can the nose area only , from the flat nose foreward be recut to a rounded or pointed shape that will feed in this rifle?
Option B would be to have mold milled to a plain base to use in a rifle that this bullet
will feed in.
It will not feed in a T/C Icon ( nose shape) , too long for a Savage ( seating depth)
It will feed in a Savage but it has to be seated deeper than desireable , if changing nose shape of mold is not an option it could be a plain base for a Savage with a shorter throat.
Not cost effective to be used as paper weight.

This a problem I try with all in me to avoid, but it pops up all too often when customers order without asking or sending throat slugs.  Even then life isn't always perfect but failure to feed is rare if I know what I'm making a mold for.  All this and I have no idea how much we discussed your order!  Best plan if for you to email me direct on this issue, as the answers, beside what I offer below will not be of interest to the readers of this forum

As for making any mold modification, I avoid it because it is very time consuming, which means expensive, though I may be able to do something that will fix your problem, N/C, after communicating directly with you by email.  Shortening the mold to remove the gc will normally give no better performance than if the bullets are just used without checks, leaving the check shank in place as is.  Also, if deep seating allows the bullet to feed, but the deep seated check ruins performance, I have always had success by filling the case with granulated plastic shot buffer, and compressing it by seating the bullet.

I believe you have the nose profile designation wrong, as the only thing close to what you call it, that I make, is a WFN or WLN.  You didn't mention anything about caliber.  Be sure to give me more specs when you email.     LBTisAccuracy@localnet.com

You say it isn't cost effective for you to use it as a paper weight.  It isn't cost effective for me to make you have to, if I can possible afford to help, my friend!

I'd be interested in knowing how the mould was originally spec'd. I once e-mailed back & forth about a half dozen times with Veral before I realized that my Savage had a "cast bullet unfriendly" throat. The throat was just too short for what I wanted to do, and I didn't want the lengthen the throat. So, I bought another 44 mag mould instead. It pays to be flexible.
