The factory used to put 'em on the iron frames.

Isn't that a topper 158?  I had a 30-30 topper 158 that came w/ a Topper Jr 20 ga barrel.

Thanks,  thought I read that somewhere.  I'm not sure if it is a 158 or 88.  The barrel says Topper Model.  It was made in the mid 80's and has the oddball ser. number prefix BA.

One of the first ones I ever had was a .30-30/20 ga. youth combo I got about 1982 and it was used then.

We have a 1973 model 158 Topper 30/30.  We mounted a scope on it.  Worked over the trigger some and really enjoy it now.  We have only shot a coyote or two with it but my 16 year old son wants to use it this year through the deer season. It is a pretty handy rifle. Seems plenty accurate for deer hunting.  :)

I have three 30-30 topper barrels on various frames. I have checked all the frames for cracks and wear. I handload 130 grain bullets using data in Hogdgons #26 manual which gives me pressure and velocity. I just load to under the stated velocity to enhance safety with these older frames. Recoil is just a soft push and allows me to watch thru the scope as I shoot and can see impact. Kinda nice.

I also have a .223 SL barrel and a 30-06 barrel that I use on a SB2 2003 frame.  I think the 30-30 doesn't stress a frame to much simply because of the case design and low loading pressure.

Does the firing pin diameter have any issue on the rifle primer? I know there is a difference but am un-aware of why they are different.  thejanitor

I don't think the pin size is an issue with large rifle primers, just thinner pistol primers.
