Since India is NOT a muslim country his infidel wife is allowed to visit. Seems that 40 planes is a bit much though, maybe taking sashas toys and micheles dresses since she is widely known for her great fashion. POWDERMAN.

What has been the “standard” for U.S. presidents travelling?

It is not a simple one plane trip. Before the president goes to country X or counties XYZ representatives from the White House and the Secret Service are dispatch to make arrangements for the presidential party.

I do not recall the numbers involved in Bush’s 2006 around the world trip but it was huge. So what standard was set before this upcoming White House trip? As I recall the Bush party amounted to two hundred plus people. Remember the president requires 24/7 protect and support.

Way back when... I was assigned to the White House Comm Agency. Did several overseas swings with Bush and Clinton. A simple list is:

AF1
Back up AF1
CENEX plane (small fast evac plane)
Press Plane

The following are X2 for outbound and inbound trips...
C5 (or 2) for Helicopters
C5 for Secret Service vehicles (armor and glass car, and limo's)
C5 for Comm team
Comm air for USSS team

This would be a minumum for a one-site visit. If the boss is going to visit several sites or several countries, the requirements go up almost exponentially.

Of course there are a couple of others... but then you have to add in some refueling planes here and there. Sometimes like in Africa, we had a small fleet of C130's to move folks around the continent since bigger planes couldn't work in most of the airports or landing strips. If the boss is going to move around in country, the distances might require more aircraft to support more USSS, helicopters and Marines, and comm teams.

The logistics and costs for a Presidential visit or a foreign swing are staggering. In 1994 (I think) I had a personnel list of all the folks on Clinton's G7 trip to Naples. It amounted to over 900 names... Think about all the hotel rooms, drivers, cars, phone calls, sat phone calls etc... the $$$ are in the 10's of millions for something like that.

I can tell you exactly why he's doing this. He, and wife-poo, are just on the other end of the welfare spectrum. Nether one has ever had a real job, where ends had to be met. They've either been on the govt. dole, or had high end paying jobs, and mommy and daddy paid their way thru college. Name one time period in either of their lives, say a 2-3 year period, where they worked in a McDonalds, supermarket bagger job,pizza joint,line job in a factory,Walmart job,whatever, to put themselves thru school,or paid rent,house payment. I think everyone has been aware that moving the "Boss" around is an expensive endeavor, but if the particulars of this latest outrage are true, then it has gotten completely out of hand. It's time that the Congress starts to take responsibility for the funding of such boondoggles.

Why do 3000 people have to go with the President and what is the benefit to us the people who actually pay for it? What is the benefit to the the country? If what is being reported is fact, then this trip will cost us 2 billion bucks. That would pay for a heck of a lot of medical expenses for those who Obama claims to be worried about.

It's time to put the White House on a budget. It would be cheaper to have a king.

GYPSYMAN. Good post, all true. To me the main point isn't just that millions are being wasted in all theses trips but why is he going to all these places??? For America??? How does it benefit our country??? Oh I know, he went to all those godless countries to teach em how to bow like a good muslim. If, and I do mean IF, he actually had a reason to go why does the whole family go along??? Why should our tax $s pay for yet another vacation for michelle and the kiddies??? During WW2, the allied leaders (FDR and Churchill) lived like royalty while common people "sacrificed" for the common good, just like the modern USA where the Obama's live in splendor while the rest of us "sacrifice."
The difference between then and now is that FDR and Churchill went to considerable pains to conceal their high rolling, champaign and caviar habits. They knew enough not to flaunt it because of the political reaction.

What has changed? Well, today's ruling elites are so complacent and secure in their rule over us that they do not have to conceal their high flying lifestyles. The Obamas are constantly going on vacation or otherwise flaunting their sense of material entitlement. There is not a flicker of protest. What has happened to us? Well half a century ago, common Americans were smart enough to recognize and protest against corruption. Today, Zombie like, they just accept it.

Hanity has used 2 Billion,(yes that is Billion with a B) dollars for his India Indonesia trip. The only positives I see in this, is that he aint here, and the more he flies, the more likley it is for a plane crash. ( Not that I'm wishing that on him ), But God does work in mysterious ways, as in our Minnesota, Wellstone issue.

Considering there are over 30 Navy ships, and aircraft carrier and a few battlewagons, I can see where the cost is well over a billion dollars. Wonder how many are left to do regular patrols?
