New encore owner here

I just bought a TC Encore pistol with a 15" 45/410 barrel strictly for rabbit hunting. Ive fired about 10-12 rounds through it and find the 410 seems to REALLY  scatter! I cant hit anything with this! Do they make a full choke for the 45/410 barrel? Any advice on how to set this up to kill at 25yds? Im disappointed so far

Well Swampbuck, you could have one made, but the stock barrel definitely scatters.  I mean, it is afterall a 15", no choke 410 barrel.  Have you considered an Handi in 410?  Barring that, you could sneak up on them

Do they may different chokes for this barrel? I am shooting 3" #6 shot through it

The "choke" is intended to stop the spin on the shot charge more than to choke the pattern.  I assume that you are using the tube that came with the gun?  If not you will have a hole in the middle of the pattern due to the rifling spinning the charge.

I don't have one anymore.  I tried one, and couldn't get it to work well with shot or with the .45.  Lots of people like them, so I will let them tell you how to make it work.

If the choke tube that comes with it isn't doing what you need it to, you might consider sending the barrel to Briley here in Houston.  They can make a custom tube for about $70 that should help.  Let me know, I'm interested.

I have a super 14 on a contender frame and I have shot skeet with it using the 2 1/2 inch 71/2 shot but anything out past 20 yrds is a miss. I use nine more for snakes than any thing and at 10 to 15 yrds it works great.

Another question for you Encore guys(or anyone who knows) Im not impressed with the pattern at 25yds at all. Im shooting 3" #6 shot, if I went to a 7.5 or smaller, will I get more pellets in the killzone? what round is best for slaying hare at 20-25yds?

I had a 14" Contender barrel for the .45/.410 that patterned much better with smaller shot..7 1/2's were better than 6's..I had some Fiocchi 7's that were good also..killed lots of crows outta of my pecan trees with mine.

Swampbuck, if you can't kill a rabbit at 20-25yds., then you must not have the choke screwed in. My 14" 45/410 contender with #6 rem. 3" will lay tree rats down at 20-25yds. It groups best with win super x #8s, but not good for the previously mentioned animals. You owe it to yourself to try several brands and shot sizes.  Pat

I have a buddy up in Maine that had his 45LC/410 bbl de-rifled. IIRC it was a 10" bbl for his older Contender. The smith converted it into a smooth bore but left the threads for the choke in place. He constantly kills grouse with the pistol at 20+yds. ---SAWMAN

Wouldn't that make it illegal, i.e. a sawed off shotgun?

That doesn't make sense.  If that were the case why wouldn't TC offer a their barrel as a smoothbore?

You are correct.  To be legal, a smoothbore has to have 18" minimum barrel regardless of what kind of stock it has.  The rifling in the T/C, Judge, etc. is what makes it legal.  Now maybe this individual paid the tax and got the ATF stamp for an AOW (any other weapon).
