Double D Ranch in Ohio
« on: October 31, 2010, 03:44:11 PM »
I took my daughter to Double D Ranch yesterday.  She was able to harvest a nive Mouflon Ram with a muzzleloader.   It was a great experience! The guides were very patient.  I took my son to White Oak in Ohio 4 years ago. (It was a great hunt but it was more than twice the price to hunt at White Oak).  The hunt at Double D Ranch was really tough.     I give it 2 thumbs up!

Tell her well done! :-) And thank you for posting I like knowing what places are local within 3 states of me. Gives me options for all our brood.

Last FEB 2010 I hunted red stag at Double D.  It was challenging and quite exciting.

I'll return someday for another hunt.  They treat you like a favored guest at Double D Ranch.

The hunt at Double D Ranch was really tough.

How so?  It sounds from your story that it was a 1 day 100% success with a muzzleloader?  Were there very few animals and you just got lucky?  I'm confused.

It was a February 2010 hunt for red stag.  Yes, it was real Winter at the time.

I booked a hunt for cow elk in mid-OCT; will stalk close again with my 30-30.  Planning two quick shots into the chest organs from broadside presentation.  30-30 is a KEEPER!!

Nice Red Stag.    How did you like that first 300 yard climb?    I shot my buffalo (yearling) with a 30-30.  I enjoy  shooting hogs, buffalo, ground hogs, coy dogs with it.    ( no pics DR. - camera errors )

dukkillr....The terrain (high hills and deep hollows) and the spookiness of the animals made it tough for my daughter who had only shot at objects on the level that were inanimate.

You can't change the topographical situation,  but when animals are spooky that would indicate high hunting pressure.

It's a fenced operation so I expected hunting pressure and spooky animals.   The fact that it was challenging for my daughter was not a bad thing at all.    It is a great place to hunt.  We were treated well and I got to spend quality time with my daughter.  What more could I ask for?
